Stretches for Tired Travelers

Friday 2nd February 2007

With all the fun and adventure of travel can sometimes comes an achey joint or a crick in the neck. These suggested stretches come from Darrin Zeer, author of Travel Yoga and are easy enough to do at a roadside rest stop or an airport lounge.

Rag Doll:
Sit straight and reach your hands toward the ceiling. Breathe in deeply, and relax completely on the exhale. Inhale again, and drop your arms and upper body toward the ground like a rag doll. Breath deeply. Hold for 30 seconds.

Happy Stretch:
Sit tall, and interlace your fingers behind your head. Relax your elbows and shoulders, then smile to release the tension in your facial muscles, breathe, and stretch your elbows backward. Feel your shoulders release tension and your chest open. Hold for 30 seconds.

Leg Loosener: Scoot back a few inches in your chair, and hold the front or side edges of the seat. Tighten your abdomen, straighten your legs, and lift them a half-inch off the ground. Lean back, and push your elbows into the seat back for balance. Rotate your feet in both directions for 30 seconds.

Mmmmm, that's better!
