Spruce Restaurant Opens
Thursday 2nd August 2007
Our fair city by the bay is so full of culinary delights it's hard to keep track of them all. But that doesn't make it any less exciting when a new one joins the fray. Spruce, the Presidio Heights newcomer that opens today is sure to please locals and visitors alike. Here's what one of our favorite websites for all things local, fancy and wonderful had to say about it.
From julib.com:
if you've been coveting a clean-cut hamptons vibe and a wealth of simple objets, then you just might like newcomer spruce - a design-dining treasure opening thursday. the geniuses behind village pub teamed up with stephen brady, VP of design at williams-sonoma home to create a place that's simple and modern, but you still want to get comfy in. saddle leather chairs make an ideal seat for artisanal cocktails or a pedigreed riesling from a long list. the menu, from food & wine best new chef mark sullivan, doesn't waste time worrying about what should go with what, but mixes up global eats, filtered through san fran-colored glasses. following the city groove of chefs doing the green acres thing, a good 80 percent of produce comes from the resto's private farm up in santa cruz; the rest, locavore purveyors at the farmers' market. the bacalao dumpings, turmeric-poached bluefoot chicken and even a simple tomato soup seem way fancier than anything eva gabor would eat, though. with all of the sophistication and none of the smug, sure, we'll go local. spruce 3640 sacramento street presidio heights 415.931.5100
