SF Fashion Week
Tuesday 14th August 2007

August 22 - 26 marks the fourth annual San Francisco Fashion Week, five days of catwalks and parties, cocktails and couture. Sounds like heaven. The event has gone from a somewhat maligned endeavor (San Francisco? Fashion? Seriously?) to a well-respected anticipated happening brining San Francisco's burgeoning design community to the forefront, in one place for everyone to see. It's a showcase for the city's up-and-coming designers, includes a number of fashion shows not to mention industry workshops and a boutique featuring the work of local talent plus parties, parties, parties. Here are blurbs of a couple of our design faves that will be featured in the events (courtesy of SF Fashion Week's website):

Kirribilla Kirribilla was founded in 2005 with the goal of making every girl feel like the prettiest one in the room. Best friends Amanda Thomas, Faye Davison Rexing, and Phoebe Davison craved the dresses they couldn’t find-the ones that turn everyone’s heads, steal all the compliments and make you feel more confident than any supermodel. And so they set out to create them. With design studios in San Francisco and London, the three draw inspiration from their own stylish surroundings and beyond to create classically chic dresses with a touch of flair, ensuring girls everywhere are dressed to their top potential.

Velvet Leaf Sustainability: The ability to provide for the needs of the world’s current population without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for themselves. When a process is sustainable, it can be carried out over and over without negative environmental effects. Laura and Beck Carter, natives of Placerville, CA launched Velvet Leaf in 2006 at age 18 and 20. Velvet Leaf was created to redefine the young contemporary “sustainable” clothing line. At Velvet Leaf, they understand that the fashion market and environment are both constantly changing. They know that sustainability is the way forward. This is why they have developed a clothing line that will provide the market with a valuable 100% eco-friendly product with high-end fashion forward designs. Support the Organic Movement.
Ticket prices range depending on events, so be sure to check out the website for more information and a full schedule of the happenings. Be there or be square.
