Pack LiteWednesday 20th June 2007
We've got summer travel on the brain, so we turned to nutritionist Keri Glassman for tips to keep healthy eating on the itinerary. All aboard: Having a real meal (i.e. breakfast, lunch or dinner) before getting on a plane makes those cookies and pretzels going down the aisle much easier to pass up. Drink plenty of water too, to combat flight-caused fatigue and jetlag. Dashboard dining: If your passenger seat bears a striking resemblance to a vending machine (think Doritos, popcorn and Famous Amos), it's time to hit the brakes. Bag serving size portions of nuts and veggies, and stash them in the glove compartment or bag. Mini-bar makeover: Swap the contents of hotel mini-bars with yogurt and fruit from a nearby grocery store (buy local!), or bring along non-perishable morning foods like fiber crackers, cereals, nuts and energy bars to create a makeshift breakfast. |
