Monterey's Christmas in the AdobesWednesday 22nd November 2006Monterey is always lovely, this event is just an added bonus. December 8 & 9 marks the 23rd anniversary of Monterey's Christmas at the Adobes celebration. 20 of the city's Mexican-era adobes will be illuminated by candlelight, called "luminarias", with holiday music, entertainment and refreshments to kick off the holiday season. Many of these historic buildings are rarely open to the public, especially in the evening so it's an event not to be missed. Several adobes, including the Royal Presidio Chapel built in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra, will be open for the first time. Staff and volunteers will be at each site to point out unique aspects of the buildings and illuminate the histories of former occupants. Tickets are $20 for adults and $2 for children.
