Michelin's San Francisco Guide
Wednesday 25th October 2006
Known for it's trend-setting reviews, Michelin has a taste for the high-falutin and has finally come to set the standards for the Bay Area, only the second American city it has graced with its presence (New York, dining capital of the US was the first, of course). It's 2007 guide lists only one restaurant as a three-star destination (meaning "exceptional cuisine and worth the journey" and it's no surprise Napa Valley's The French Laundry bears this crown. Four, including Aqua, one of my personal faves, received an "excellent cooking and worth a detour" judgement while 23 others from the Financial District to Sausalito got the single star, "a very good restaurant in its category". If eating well is an element of your vacation, you can't go wrong with a Michelin in hand.
