Art Star: Clare Rojas
Wednesday 19th September 2007

We've had our eye on artist (and musician) Clare Rojas for awhile now. There's just something emotionally evocative in her simple paintings that blend old and new. So we were thrilled when we found out about her show "P.S. Hurray!!" at Gallery Paule Anglim on Geary Street. Here's what one of our fave sites Flavorpill had to say about it:
Clare Rojas (aka singer Peggy Honeywell) has always emphasized her love of folksy Americana, both in her 2-D art and in her music. Her paintings of old banjos and sanded boards hang unframed from a row of hooks lining the walls, giving the gallery a homey quality. Present everywhere is Rojas' characteristic combination of bold sections of color with finely painted details. Rojas imbues the decorative conventions of folk art with a feminist sensibility to create nearly surrealistic scenes. (TMW)
You have until Saturday, September 29 to check it out, you won't be disappointed.
