50th Anniversary of On the Road
Thursday 27th September 2007

Can you believe it's been 50 years since Jack Kerouac went on a three-week creative bender and came out the other side with a 120-foot, typewritten scroll of literary genius? Clearly the originator of the road trip as a drug-fueled, anarchic, life-changing experience, Kerouac documented his numerous cross-country travels in mid-century America with a passionate stream-of-consciousness style. The Beat writer encouraged thousands of readers past and present to hit the open road with a lust for life and a desire for experience. While we don't advocate all of Kerouac's pasttimes here at Road Trips Galore, we do love what he did for our favorite mode of travel. And in celebration, we're about to dust off our copy and read On the Road with a newfound appreciation while we think about our own next road trip. We suggest you do the same.
